Welcome to my Tour de Cure Fundraising Page
IF SO MANY LIVES ARE TOUCHED BY DIABETES. CHANCES ARE YOUR LIFE IS TOO. MINE IS.
My son, Michael, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on February 19, 2008. He was a 7th grader at the time. He is now a handsome 21 year old. I remember him telling me he was thirty often and that he always felt like he had to go to the bathroom. So I gave him sugar filled Gatorade or soda. I was clueless, uneducated on the signs of the onset of diabetes. He was wasting away before my eyes and I did not know it. I saw him one night as he was getting his pajamas on and panic set in. He was skin and bones like a starving child might look. It took my breath away. I set up a doctor's tappointment right away fearing cancer or leukemia, still clueless. That next day he was on his way to Temple Children's hospital, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and would remain there for four days while they got his incredibly high blood glucose levels (700+) and all the other bodily functions that were out of whack back to normal. It was only by God's grace that he did not fall into a coma with readings that high. So, needless to say, I'm committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not only because 29 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I have a diabetic that is near and dear to me, one that I love and cherish. If I could take it away from him I would but I can't! I can, however, do something about it. You can too, just by donating. It would mean the world to me. This year is even more special because it's the 25th Anniversary of the Tour de Cure. Just click the donate button to contribute online or send me a message if you would rather write a check.
I am forever grateful for your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes! Mary B
