Why I Ride
LEADING BY EXAMPLE. UNITED BY A CAUSE.
April 25th, 2011, Paige said these words to me, "Mom, I want to go to the doctor, I don't feel any better." She was 7 years old, and she was sick, but I didn't realize how sick. We'd been watching her health deteriorate over the course of just a few weeks. She lost weight, and she couldn't afford to lose a pound. She got up frequently in the night to go to the bathroom, something she never did. She was tired, cranky, thirsty. She was showing signs of diabetic ketoacidosis, and her blood sugar was in the 500's (normal should be below 180). I didn't know then what I know now. I don't want to think about what would've happened if I had waited even one more day. In the 8 years since her diagnosis we have grown stronger as a family to fight this disease. Thanks to Tour de Cure and the American Diabetes Association we are able to fight for a cure.
So many people are affected by diabetes and I want to do something about this disease. You can too, just by donating to the American Diabetes Association on my behalf. It would mean so much to me.
Every donation makes such a big difference. The money we raise for the Association funds critical diabetes research, information programs, and advocacy efforts that support the nearly 30 million children and adults in the U.S. with diabetes, and the 86 million with pre-diabetes.
I am forever grateful for all of those willing to help and thank you for supporting me!
