Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
To all my friends and donors for the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure,
I would like to start off by saying thank you for all of your support over the last eight years, it has truly been a privilege and a pleasure to support my good friend Brad Maas, his daughter Paige, the entire Maas Family, and all people living with diabetes. When I flew out to Portland in 2012 to join Brad on the first Tour de Cure I rented a bike and Brad and I pedaled 100 miles through wine country with my rental bike creaking and squeaking along for the whole ride, but it was a great experience. Little did I think at the time that eight years later Brad’s humble team, Paige’s Pilots, would grow to become one of the largest donors to the Portland Tour de Cure. Paige’s Pilots became the number one “Friends & Family” team, and for several years was the overall number one fundraising team, besting many corporations in the Portland area. The donations raised through last year by Paige’s Pilots totaled $215,343. That number is incredible and is due directly to your generosity!
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, 2020 has become a year unlike any we have seen in a long time, and in many cases unlike any we have seen in our lifetimes. We all have our personal stories from this pandemic, but one fallout has been charitable donations. Donations to the American Diabetes Association have virtually gone to zero, and as a result, many local offices have been closed by the organization, including the Portland office. One of the benefits of the local office was that the money raised at the Tour de Cure was able to be directed to local schools and local needs. Through your donations, the American Diabetes Association was able to train staff at Paige’s school and establish protocols to help keep her safe and manage her diabetes. Unfortunately, without a local office and a local voice, this will be the last year that we will be riding in support of the Portland office.
I am asking for your support one last time. I understand this pandemic has affected everyone to some extent, and if you are unable to donate this year, I completely understand. This year our fundraising goal is $34,657. In case you are wondering where Brad came up with that number, that is the amount we need to raise to reach a total of $250,000 in donations as a team. I would love to help the Maas family reach that goal and I sincerely appreciate any amount you are able to donate. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I would like to once again say THANK YOU for all your support over the years, and I hope you can help out a little bit one more time.
