Angela Pereira's Tour de Cure Web Page!
I need your help!
Confession time. I'm a Type 2 diabetic. It was first noted more than 30 years ago, during the military physical for my Air Force ROTC scholarship. At that time, the flight surgeon simply said "watch the sweets" and sent me on my way. I was officially diagnosed eleven years ago, and it scared the living daylights out of me. I got serious about my health, losing sixty five pounds and enbracing a healthier diet and a more active life style. A big factor in getting - and keeping - my diabetes under control was making exercise a daily event, not just a 'whenever-I-feel-like-it' kind of thing. One of the exercises I embraced in my journey is biking, both road and trail varieties.
Not only am I a diabetic, I am a cancer surrvivor as well. I was diagnosed in 2013 with uterine leiomyosarcoma, a very rare and agressive cancer. I spent eighteen months fighting that dragon and recovering. I am now three years into remission and and still Dancing with NED (No Evidence of Disease). Biking keeps me strong and healthy as well as mitigates the stresses of living a vigilant life milestoned with CAT scans, PET scans and labwork.
Help Make a Difference in the fight against diabetes!
The funds I raise this year will be used in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
No matter how small or large, your generous gift will help improve the lives of nearly 24 million Americans who suffer from diabetes, in the hope that future generations can live in a world without this disease. Together, we can all make a difference!
