Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
This year is all about the Tour de France! I will use my ride in Tour de Cure to do several things:
First and foremost, I ride the tour to raise funds in support of the American Diabetes Association. Why? Because diabetes has affected both mine and Kathy's families in significant ways, including three members with Type I childhood onset. We have lost two members of our family to complications of diabetes and don't want to lose any more of them! Take a minute to look at the current fact sheet published by the ADA: (copy and paste the link into your browser) https://www.cdc.gov/features/diabetesfactsheet/. You should be stunned to learn that more than 29 million Americans have diabetes; 1 in 4 doesn’t know! Worse yet: 86 million adults aged 20 years and older have prediabetes! This is obviously an epidemic that we need to get a handle on as soon as possible. The annual healthcare costs run into the billions!
Second, I am riding this particular Tour de Cure to train for my first and only participation in a guided Tour de France Tour where I will get to ride the actual race routes. (No, I'm not participating in the race.) I am registered with a tour company out of Australia (Bikestyle Tours) that has taken riding groups to professional bike races all over the world. Our group will participate in "Cobbles to Cols" - an 8-day cycling journey that follows the 2017 Tour de France through the heartland of the Spring Classics. We will ride the Cobbles of the Spring Classics, climb Mur de Huy, and enjoy the beautiful Vosges mountains; seeing 4 stages of the 2017 Tour de France. I am so excited to finally realize this dream that I have had for 15 years!
I hope you will consider supporting my ongoing fundraising for ADA in 2017. It is obviously very important to me and my family as well as to the other 29 million Americans currently impacted by this disease. Your donation on the link above is quick, easy, and secure.
Thank you so very much for your support!
