My grandmother, Pearl Morrison, passed away from complications due to Type 1 diabetes when I was a teenager. She was only 62. Throughout her life, she diligently watched her diet and injected herself several times daily with a syringe. She suffered many of the worst complications of the disease in her later years yet never complained. Her courage and faith always inspired me.
That is why the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure is more than a cycling event to me. I ride to honor Pearl. And I ride to help manage my own diabetes, thankful that I have much better tools than what was available to her because of what others have done before me. This ride is my opportunity to help change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of others who are also affected by diabetes.
With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible.
I truly appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
