Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
I'm in training for my Eighth Tour this year. The reasons are all to many, too many family and friends who are diabetic or pre-diabetic and all too many children with Type 1 diabetes. The money raised for the Tour de Cure goes directly for research, education and advocacy for diabetics. I'm proud to be a part of this great cause and have made many friends along the way and although we always don't agree on things, we are 100% together in our efforts for the Tour de Cure. ** A note... I will be riding my Tour on June 12 as I will be away on a mission trip on the 14th. day of Tour de Cure, but putting in the miles and do the pedaling, I will.
My own diagnosis for Type II diabetes came in 2007 with an A1C of 11.2, not good news. I still had some serious lifestyle changes to make and did get serious about that a bit slower than my doctor would have liked. In 2010 I became a full partner with my doctor in the management of my diabetes.
After about 37 years away from riding a bicycle with any regularity, I began training for the Saratoga Springs Tour de Cure, where I did complete the 62.5 mile tour in 2013. I trained and completed the 100 mile tour in 2014 and this year, 2019 I'll be focusing more a plesant ride and recruiting for the great team I'm part of, Kivort Steel Diabetes Revolution, The #1 fundraising team in the country!
I'm riding for my sister JoAnn, and other family members and friends who were impacted by diabetes. I want to see a cure for this disease and this is the best way I know how to contrubute. Diabetes touches too many familys and with the Tour, the money raised goes directly towards research, education and advocacy. I need your help.
Chances are, you also know someone who has been affected by diabetes and you already know how important it is to stop this disease. By making a donation on my behalf or by joining my team, you will be helping the ADA provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible.
I truly appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
