Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
Why I ride ... I may have walked in my father's footsteps, but will blaze a new path for my daughters.
Life has a way of sending us important health messages ... we can choose to accept, ignore or justify away these messages but they keep coming. My 1st health message came while I was away at college. My dad became seriously ill while playing in my brother’s father-son hockey game. It woke us all up to the dangers of poor health and diabetes. When someone you love is struck with a serious illness life has a way of playing fond memories back to you. I thought about following my dad down narrow wooden pathways while hunting together as father and son. I will forever cherish those days where he led the way and I followed knowing he was on the right path.
For a while he took this message seriously…. changed his behavior and his overall health…but it did not last, the message grew faint and eventually he started a long slide towards a painful end.
I felt helpless…I still feel helpless… I tried to influence changes to help him change but he was on a path and did not know how to navigate the rough roads. After every visit to the hospital I was reminded that I too needed to follow my own advice to ensure that did not follow in my father’s footsteps. How do I change direction on a family history? I knew there had to be a better alternative to just feeling helpless.
That’s when I heard about the Tour de Cure. The path became clear and journey would promote a healthy lifestyle and resolve the helpless feeling I had struggled with since my dad’s passing. But most important of all….just as I had traveled behind my dad growing up…as a dad myself my daughters were following closely behind me. As a father myself I knew I had to chart a new path. I started riding to honor my dad but my journey on this tour is mapping out a new pathway to a healthier life for my daughters.
Please support my ride with a donation to The American Diabetes Association, with your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible.
I truly appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
