Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
40 miles is my goal again this year!!! Having been successful last year on a cold, rainy and very windy day - I think I can do it again. My name is Emma, I am 13 years old. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in November of 2011. Since I rode in the Tour de Cure last year, there have been some exciting changes happening in diabetes research. The artifical pancreas was finally approved by the FDA for people over 14 years old!!! I have another year to go before I could use this - it takes the continuous glucose monitor and the pump and allows for communication between the two. They use fancy calculations to let the pump make decisions about whether I need more or less insulin. Maybe I won't have to poke my finger so many times!!! Every donation my team and I get helps us get closer to this reality. Will you help me make this happen?
I am riding because the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure is my opportunity to change the future and make a positive impact in my life and in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes.
I am committed to ride and raise money not only because 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I deal with it everyday, and I want to do something about it.
Chances are, you also know someone who has been affected by diabetes and you already know how important it is to stop this disease. By making a donation on my behalf or by joining my team, you will be helping the Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes, like mine did. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible.
I truly appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
