Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
June is a busy month for the Portuondo family, as both myself and my two boys celebrate birthdays. On June 10, I will be biking 62 miles in the Rochester Tour de Cure in honor of my 9-year old son Ian, who suffers from Type-1 Diabetes. Monday, June 12 will be a birthday celebration for Ian, who was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes, an auto-immune disease, in 2013. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease, where the pancreas has stopped producing insulin. Every meal that includes carbohydrates require an inulin dose and his blood sugar needs to be monitored constantly with the help of a conitinuous glucose monitor. Ever present is device number 2, an insulin pump attached to his arm which provides fast-acting insulin into his body 24-hours a day.
I am asking that you help support me in my cause of eradicating this disease. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Diabetes Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure. With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible. I truly appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
