Welcome to My Tour de Cure Web Page!
June is a busy month for the Portuondo family, as both myself and my two boys celebrate birthdays. On June 9, I will be biking in my 4th Rochester Tour de Cure in honor of my 10-year old son Ian, who suffers from Type-1 Diabetes. Tuesday, June 12 will be a birthday celebration for Ian, who was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes, an auto-immune disease, in 2013. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease, where the pancreas has stopped producing insulin. Every meal that includes carbohydrates require an inulin dose and his blood sugar needs to be monitored constantly with the help of a continuous glucose monitor. Ever present is device number 2, an insulin pump attached to his arm which provides fast-acting insulin into his body 24-hours a day.
I am asking that you help support me in my cause of eradicating this disease. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Diabetes Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure. With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. This year will be a special year, as Ian will bike with our team. I am also upping the ante as far as goals go: the bar is set at $10,0000 and I will commit to participate monetarily in any shortfall of said goal. Thanks in advance for any help!
