Welcome to my Personal Page
LEADING BY EXAMPLE. UNITED BY A CAUSE.
My mother had type 2 diabetes. When things were bad she would tell us "whatever you do don't get diabetes". So when my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic in 2010 I knew I had to do something about it. My A1C was 6.5 and I weighed around 240 lbs. He said if I lose weight and exercise more I could get my A1C back to normal levels. I met with a dietician and decided to make some changes to my diet. I had a treadmill at home and a bicycle so I started to exercise more. I started to lose weight first dropping down to around 180 to 185 lbs. My A1C started dropping as well. In 2 years it was down to 5.9 with 5.6 being considered normal. I needed to do better. I lost some more weight. I now average 160 lbs. over the last couple of years. I now do aerobic exercise every day for 30 minutes. I participate in 5K runs and ride longer distances on my bike outdoors. Since 2012 my A1C has been in the normal range 4 out of 7 times ranging between 5.4 to 5.9. Last year I participated in the Tour de Cure and rode my bike for 64 miles, the longest daily trip I have ever done. I will try to match that again this year.
It started with just one decision and one intention. I decided to make a difference in my life and the lives of others. I registered to participate in the Tour de Cure and I am now raising money to prevent diabetes, to fight the consequences and to improve the lives of all of those affected. I want to find a cure.
So many people are affected by diabetes and I want to do something about this disease. You can too, just by donating to the American Diabetes Association on my behalf. It would mean so much to me.
Every donation makes such a big difference. The money we raise for the Association funds critical diabetes research, information programs, and advocacy efforts that support the nearly 30 million children and adults in the U.S. with diabetes, and the 86 million with pre-diabetes.
I am forever grateful for all of those willing to help and thank you for supporting me!
