2014 Northern Virginia Tour de Cure

Lockheed Martin & Friends

Our team consists of Lockheed Martin employees in the Washington Metro Area including Fairfax County, Manassas, Gaithersburg and Bethesda sites.  The team is open to family and friends.  This is the team's seventh year in the Tour de Cure and we are excited to be involved again. Feel free to sign up or support one of our team members in meeting our fundraising goal.  If you have any questions please contact our team captain.

For more information on the event please head over to the Event Page: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TourAdmin?fr_id=9361&pg=entry

We ride for fun.  We ride because it’s green.  We ride for the adrenaline. We ride because of the challenge. But the real reason why we ride is because we are motivated to end diabetes. Many of us have friends, family and associates who currently suffer or have passed away from this disease. Lockheed Martin is committed to doing something about it. Our corporate motto is, “We never forget who we’re working for.”  But in the case of the Tour de Cure, “We never forget who we’re riding for.”

There are two ways you can support Lockheed Martin riders. The first is to join our team and participate in the June 1st Tour de Cure in Reston Virginia. Make your experience even more fun by asking friends and family to join our team. They are all welcome!

Our goal is to build a team of 50 dedicated riders pedaling for the American Diabetes Association (ADA).  All team members who raise a minimum of  $250 will earn a free Lockheed Martin team jersey. How cool is that? Together with the ADA we will help train you and show you how to fundraise!
Second, if you can't join us, support us! By making a donation to our team or one of our team members, you are helping to provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.

We are determined to reach our team goal, one rider at a time. So dust off that bike and get in gear and ride to Stop Diabetes.

Goal:
-> Tie Tour de Cure to the “Accelerating a Better You” employee wellness campaign and help achieve the corporate goal of making Lockheed Martin the healthiest workforce in the aerospace and defense industry by raising awareness about diabetes and promoting exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Objectives:
->
Drive employee participation to meet corporate team goals around employee volunteering/engagement and build employee pride in Lockheed Martin as an employer of choice.
->
Highlight executive participation to increase internal and external awareness of Lockheed Martin executives as leaders who prioritize community and philanthropic efforts.
->
Establish a significant Lockheed Martin presence at various location rides, creating a scalable and repeatable process for annual participation.

Key Messages:
->
In 2013, Lockheed Martin embarked on a bold mission: To have the healthiest workforce in the aerospace and defense industry.
->
Lockheed Martin is working toward Accelerating a Better You by changing the way we look at health and wellness, putting the focus on you and your overall well-being.
->
As one of the top seven conditions driving health care costs for Lockheed Martin, employees are mobilizing to help the American Diabetes Association combat one of the fastest-growing diseases in the United States, particularly among children.
->
The Tour de Cure gives employees an opportunity to have fun and improve their health while riding with co-workers, family members and friends in either shorter, family-friendly rides or longer, century-ride challenges.
->
Through the Tour de Cure, Lockheed Martin employees aim to raise more than $500,000 to prevent, cure, and improve the lives of people with diabetes.
->
Lockheed Martin’s participation as a National Team in the Tour de Cure is one example of how the corporation and its employees give back to the community.
