WE’RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE. YOU CAN TOO.
Team AlliCATErs is riding on September 9th for the second year to support the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in its efforts to raise money to find a cure and improve the treatment of Diabetes. Thirty million people in the US are living with either Type One Diabetes (T1D) which is what Cate has, or Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). We greatly appreciate any support you can give to the ADA in its efforts to combat these diseases that so greatly affect the lives of so many people around the world.
Did you know that 1 in 5 dollars spent on healthcare in the US in 2012 was either directly or indirectly realted to care of diabetes!
Did you know that every 30 seconds another American is diagnosed with T2D and that every 30 minutes another child like Cate is diagnosed with T1D - a condition that they will change thier lives.
Imagine keeping a running tally of the grams of carbohydrates (carbs) in every thing you eat for the rest of your life. Imagine being required to take a shot of insulin 5 to 6 times a day to allow your body to burn those carbs. Imaging pricking your finger to make it bleed, and testing your blood glucose level 5 to 10 dimes a day for the rest of your life. You are now imagining some of the impacts T1D has on Cate, and on another child every 30 minutes of every day of the year. Add to this knowledge that the incidence of both forms of Diabetes is increasing, and you begin to understand why we are asking you to join us in this ride to help fund research toward a cure to these diseases. Finding a cure for Diabetes is a priority for every American, whether they have a form of Diabetes themselves, have a loved one with Diabetes, or are just concerned with the drain on our society related to the huge cost of treating Diabetes.
We plan to participate in the Tour De Cure, a fun way to raise funds and awareness of Diabetes, and would be grateful to any one who joined us in this effort.
Please feel free to use the links on this page to join our team and ride with us in September.
