Our Team is Making a difference. You can too!
Our team is supporting the American Diabetes Association because we want to make a difference.
We are teaming up for the 2018 Oklahoma Tour de Cure and Step Out Event to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. We are committed to ride, walk, run and raise money in this inspirational event not because nearly 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because we personally know some of them, and want to do something about it.
Team Mvskoke participates in Oklahoma Tour de Cure and Step Out to personally honor members of our own families who have diabetes as well as to fundraise and raise awareness about the prevalence of diabetes in our Native communities. We started the Team Mvskoke cycling and walking projects to champion Muscogee people living with diabetes and to do our part in the fight against diabetes. We invite you to join Team Mvskoke and be a part of this awareness + action initiative.
If you can’t join us, support us!
The American Diabetes Association and Native Communities. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) actively funds research to combat diabetes. The ADA is an important partner to American Indian populations and our health programs. The Association fights on behalf of the diabetes community to increase federal funding for diabetes research and programs, improve comprehensive health care and insurance coverage, and to end discrimination against people with diabetes. For American Indian populations, the ADA is also an important advocate for the continual re-authorization of the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI). SDPI funds critical programs that help Tribal communities address diabetes. SDPI was just renewed in February and is currently funded at $150 million per year through September 30, 2019.
Our local support lets ADA know how much the fight against diabetes is important to Muscogee people. We are not a faceless statistic.
By making a donation or joining our team, you will be helping the Association continue to provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
As a team, as a Community, united in our desire to Stop Diabetes, we are asking for your support. Please consider making a donation to one of our team members or become one of us by joining our team.
We are determined to reach our team goal, one walker, runner, and rider at a time. So let’s get in gear and walk, run, and ride to Stop Diabetes!
