This is our 4th Year fundraising through the Tour De Cure bike ride. And....Tom's Team is Making a difference! This year brings great opportunities, because not only can you join to ride, but also, you have the option to walk, run, donate funds or volunteer to help on the event day! I'm expecially excited, because this year, 2 of my sweet friends who are nurses at UPMC Children's Hospital, have generously volunteered to join me on my Tour De Cure! Billie Jo and Ann have bravely signed up to ride the 30 Miles!
Our team has been expanded with 2 new energy boosting guys jumping in to support us! My best friend's husband, Dave Loos has stepped up to bike in the Tour De Cure! And, my spinning teacher from the YMCA, Mike Lloyd, (who has endless energy and a big heart), just surprised me by joining the team as well! Welcome Dave and Mike!
We see first hand the challenges and difficulties that a diagnosis of Diabetes bring to a child's life....and we are commited to helping the ADA find a cure, provide education, support diabetes camps, and give community outreach! When you are diabetic, no day can pass without many actions to keep you healthy. Constant pokes to check your glucose number, carb counting to measure the appropriate dose of insulin for any food you want to eat, adjusting insulin doses for exercise, illness, and sleep. For example, a simple problem like a tooth infection can turn into a severe infection quickly, causing stress to the body, tooth loss and other internal consequences. Staying healthy takes constant monitoring and actions by the person with diabetes or their parents. And this life long disease never allows for a person to take a break.
Our team is supporting the American Diabetes Association because we want to make a difference. We want to lead. We want to inspire. We want to empower. We want a cure!
We are teaming up now to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. We are committed to participate together and raise money through this inspirational event not just because over 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because so many of us personally know some of them, and want to do something about it.
This year, you can run, ride or walk with our team at Tour de Cure! If you can't join our team, support us with a donation!
Thank you for visiting our page, and considering a donation to our team!
Blessings and Health wished for you,
Tom, Anne, Billie Jo, and Ann
