Do you know someone with diabetes? Did you know that if current trends continue, 1 in 3 U.S. adults will have diabetes by 2050? The Booz Allen bike team is supporting the American Diabetes Association because we want to make a difference. We want to empower people to make a difference.
We want to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. Diabetes is a slow killer, slowly destroying the human body including, but not limited to, failing arteries, eyes, hearts, kidneys and nervous systems. A few startling facts:
- An estimated 30.3 million people of all ages—or 9.4% of the U.S. population—had diabetes in 2015.
- This total included 30.2 million adults aged 18 years or older (12.2% of all U.S. adults), of which 7.2 million (23.8%) were not aware of or did not report having diabetes.
- An estimated 33.9% of U.S. adults aged 18 years or older (84.1 million people) had prediabetes in 2015.
- The total direct and indirect estimated cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States in 2012 was $245 billion.
Our team is committed to participate together and raise money through this inspirational event not just because over 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because so many of us personally know some of them and want to do something about it.
Please support us with a donation! By donating you will be helping the American Diabetes Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
Thank you in advance for supporting the Booz Allen Bike Team and/or making a contribution to this cause. The NOVA Tour de Cure is just one day, but diabetes will be with us forever ... unless we find a cure. Every dollar and every mile brings us closer to finding a cure.
