For the past several years, Kelsey has participated in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure to not only raise money for the amazing programs the ADA offers to people with diabetes, but to grow a community of people who understand the daily struggle of living with diabetes and who are there to support each other through the ride. After her future husband and then her parents became involved, we realized that we have had an amazing community of people all along - those of us living with diabetes and our families in Yuma.
Kelsey has been very active in the Denver diabetes community for several years now, and could not be more excited for the diabetes community in Denver to see what a special community we have in Northeastern Colorado, and the love and support of all the families affected by diabetes in Yuma.
The funds from Tour de Cure are used for many programs supported by the ADA around the state – in addition to funding research to find a cure, one use that is close to Kelsey’s heart is diabetes camp. As all of you know, a child with diabetes may never get to go to a sleepover at a friends house, let alone go to summer camp without licensed medical staff. The ADA's diabetes camps offer a place for kids with diabetes to go to be around others with diabetes and to just be a kid - there are MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs, RDs, social workers, and medical students who volunteer their time to take care of these kids and take the burden of diabetes off their shoulders. It is truly the BEST week of the year, and would not be possible without the generous donations from Tour de Cure. (BONUS: Let Kelsey know if you want to get involved! We are always looking for awesome people to help out, in any capacity!)
From the bottom of our hearts, we are SO excited to have you participate in Tour de Cure 2019 - whether you want to bike, run, sit at the tent and enjoy a beer, or send your support from afar, we are so grateful for you taking the time to support us, and countless others living with diabetes.
