Dear Friends and Family,
On behalf of team ADA and my co-captain, Christopher Pappe, I hope everyone is well and surviving through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been a while since we last corresponded and I wanted to re-connect with you to remind you of the upcoming Wine Country Tour de Cure, scheduled for October 18th.
This year, the ride is going virtual, but the fight for a cure continues and is more urgent than ever, as the Covid-19 pandemic poses an immediate threat to the 34 million Americans living with Diabetes and the 115 million Americans with pre-Diabetes.
Although approximately 10% of the U.S. has diabetes (34 million), nearly 40% of the COVID-related deaths in the U.S. are among people with diagnosed diabetes. 90% of all COVID-hospitalizations are among people with diabetes and other underlying health conditions.
Team ADA has already raised $13,500 for the cause, but I know we can raise the count, as we resume our customary position atop the fundraising leaderboard, with a goal of raising $25,000.
I hope we can count on you to join us for the Wine Country ride wherever you choose to participate. To date, that already includes Team ADA riders in Chicago, Porto, Mount Martha Australia, Orlando, New York, San Francisco, San Diego, Napa, Marin and Sonoma. No matter where you choose to ride or your preferred form of exercise, you can contribute to the cause.
Here is what you can do:
1. Sign Up to Join Team ADA
Click on the link below to join Team ADA and join the fight to find a cure for Diabetes.
This year the ADA has waived their registration fee, so all you have to do is sign up and you are all set!
2. Start to Fund Raise
Contact your family, your friends, your business partners and your vendors and ask them to support the cause. Diabetes is present in so many families and social circles and is at most one degree of separation away.
3. Donate to the Cause
For so many reasons, this is a year unlike any other. However, what hasn't changed is the need to raise funds for the ADA to educate and advocate on behalf of those millions of Americans with Diabetes and ultimately to find a cure.
Christopher and I send our sincere thanks to all of you for your efforts and we look forward to connecting with you after Labor Day to report on progress and update you on the virtual apps and options to connect us for the October 18th Wine Country Tour de Cure.
Stay well.team is making a difference. You can too!
Our team is supporting the American Diabetes Association because we want to make a difference. We want to lead. We want to inspire. We want to empower. We want a cure!
We are teaming up now to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. We are committed to participate together and raise money through this inspirational event, not just because over 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because so many of us personally know some of them and want to do something about it.
This year, you can ride, run or walk with our team at Tour de Cure! If you can't join our team, support us with a donation!
By making a donation or joining our team, you will be helping the Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
When we bring together dedicated team members and generous donors, the power we have as a group far outweighs what any of us could do alone.
We are determined to reach our team goal, one person at a time. Let's make a difference together!
