MEET KATHRYN MORGAN
2013 Youth Ambassador
Diagnosed with Type I diabetes in April 2012. Her diabetes was triggered by the trauma from a dog attack the fall before.
Her favorite thing to do? Gymnastics
What do you want to be when you grow up? Veterinarian
How old were you when you were diagnosed with diabetes? 7 years old
How has your life changed since then? I can't eat chocolate or have milkshakes and I have to check my blood sugar several times a day. Sometimes I have to drink milk or juice at 2 am.
What is the most important thing people should know about diabetes? It is not scary... you just have to take very good care of your body - eat healthy and exercise. You are normal you just have a part that does not work inside - but insulin pumps are like a part that works just on the outside of your body.
Why do you think people should join Step Out and walk to STOP diabetes? It is important to get money to doctors and scientists so they can find a cure for diabetes. Also so people will know it is not a scary thing to have diabetes.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience or anything related to diabetes: My mom and my grandmother are diabetic as well.
What an incredible girl! Kathryn doesn't let her diabetes stop her, and she is actively involved in gymnastics and swimming. Kathryn and her mom are just two of the people who fight this disease daily and are why we walk! We hope you take the time to say hi to Kathryn on Saturday, November 2nd as we STEP OUT!
