Please help us PREVENT what happened to Erick from happening to others through your kind donation.
Erick (Rex) was born on May 15, 1976 and had a wonderful childhood, and was a "regular" teenager until he was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes when he was 16. While he managed his condition with medication, and eventually insulin shots, throughout his 20's he had ups and downs with Diabetes.
He met his amazing wife, Amy, 9 years ago in 2003, and began to make healthier choices and taking better care of himself.
In 2009, their engagement was marred by a routine doctor appointment that showed he was having first stages of kidney failure due to Diabetes.
They juggled planning for their wedding and Rex's increasing medical issues and appointments, and were married July 24, 2010 surrounded by family and friends.
On Saturday, June 30, 2012 he passed out and was rushed to the hospital where it was discovered he had severe heart damage due to Diabetes.
The original prognosis, while not good, was that he had a number of months to live and could perhaps maintain his current levels. He was released on Friday, July 6, 2012 and went home to be with his wife and his dogs, Crystal and Spike. Our immediate family members were with them at home preparing a welcome home dinner when he went into cardiac arrest and passed away later that night.
People ask why and how such a caring and vibrant and giving person could die so suddenly at only 36 years old. It is because of Diabetes, and the fact that everyone needs to be informed and educated advocates as a patient, and as family members who love someone with Diabetes.

Here's a small token to honor the life you lived and to recognize the struggles you fought with this disease. You were so brave and never showed how much it truly affected you.
Although you are gone, your spirit will live on in the actions and faces of all who loved you.
Rest in Peace Erick. All our love, Lu and Mama Estes

You will be greatly missed by so many. Thanks for all of the great times from Mr. Pruka's class to UCLS. Thanks for the free candy at the teen center, the ride I took on your motorcycle in the Holly parking lot (scary), and the cigar we smoked on your parent's porch. There are so many other great memories. I'm so sad you are gone. I will not forget how great of a person you were- funny, giving, carefree and happy. You're forever in my memories.
