NEW THIS YEAR - Recognition Gifts will be picked up at Tour! Participants will not receive a Thank You Gift code following the event, but will instead receive their gift at the event. If you met a gift level two week prior to the event we should have your gift on site. If not, you will turn in your gift ticket at the Recognition Tent and we will order your gift post event.
Weather - Rain or shine we ride - so bring sunglasses & sunscreen for sun; or raincoats & ponchos for rain.
Parking - General parking is available on the west side of Main Street plaza for all riders, sponsors and volunteers. The Champion and Red Rider parking are available on the east side of Main Street plaza. A VIP parking pass required for entry FOR ALL Champions and Red Riders. Please follow parking volunteers/attendants.

Registration Opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 10:30 AM; Onsite registration fee is $35, plus $200 fundraising minimum. The fundraising minimum is $50 per child 12 and under riding with parents who meet the $200 minimum required for participation.
- First aid kits available at all rest stop.
- While we will have fast acting carbs available, we encourage everyone to bring any specific medication and/or medical supplies they may need throughout the day.
- The Tour de Cure is a casual ride not a race.
- You MUST wear helmet at all times. No helmet, no ride!
- Riders 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- All riders must wear their safety wristband with support numbers.
- All riders must wear their bib while riding.
- All riders must complete and turn in and emergency contact sheet at registration.
- You are riding with traffic, obey traffic laws. You must stop at all stop signs, traffic lights and please be careful at all intersections.
- Use hand signals when turning or stopping. Also use verbal signals as you slow and stop, calling out “slowing” and “stopping”.
- Keep to the right of the road and leave room for others to pass.
- Always pass on the left and call out to fellow riders “on your left” as you pass.
- Say “Car back” or “Car up” to warn other cyclists about cars.
- Be alert to hazards in the road including pot holes, glass, loose gravel, opening car doors, etc. Point these hazards out to riders that are behind you.
- You are required to dismount for all railroad tracks.
- Please ride single line!
- Please NO headphones or IPODS! It is important to hear traffic sounds around you.
- If you need assistant there will be SAGS on the route to help you and HAM radio operators at all of the rest stops or call the number on your wristband.
- Make sure to drink lots of water and sport drink to stay hydrated. Drinking at least one water bottle per hour and alternate between water and sports drink. When it gets hotter, you’ll need to drink additional sports drink.
- Please follow the colored road arrows for your route, pay attention to signage for which color aligns with the route you have selected.

Q - I see this ride has a fundraising minimum. Can I still ride if I don't raise that amount?
A - No. The American Diabetes Association is a non-profit organization with a mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. That mission creates an imperative and constantly growing need for programs offered by the Association (ADA). Diabetes is a fast growing epidemic. Current trends show that by the year 2050, one third of the population will be diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes education and awareness is critical, and with this comes an increased need to fund programs and research to find cures and improved treatment. Tour de Cure funds help advocate for the rights of individuals with diabetes in the workplace and other organized settings, such as schools where we must be vigilant in our protection of children with diabetes and importantly, research that makes a difference for people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is made possible because of your support of the Tour. For raising the minimum fundraising goal or more, you will be offered an enjoyable ride that is fully supported with SAG support, bike mechanic support, medical personnel and first aid support, fully stocked rest stops, an event t-shirt, post-ride meal, extra perks and much more! If you have any questions about the fundraising minimum or where your fundraising dollars are being used, please do not hesitate to contact us or check the national webpage at diabetes.org. We are happy to talk to you about it and help you come up with creative ways to reach your goals.
Q - Can my child participate with me?
A - Yes, but you or an appointed adult guardian must remain with the minor (under age 18) at all times. If participating, the minor is also responsible for $50 fundraising and is also required to wear a helmet, if riding. Please use your best judgment based on the skill and maturity level of your child. We strongly recommend that prior to the Tour you enroll your children in a Road One course offered for families by your local chapter of the League of American Bicyclists. This will teach them the importance of riding on the side of the road and they will learn valuable skills for riding with other cyclists in traffic. Children who are transported in trailers or bike carriers need not be registered and are not required to meet any fundraising minimum, but you will have to fill out an Emergency Information Form for them at registration.
Q - What can participants expect from the 2017 event?
A - It will be an elevated event experience with more space, community support and added resources and focus, not to mention additional routes to meet the needs of your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers who have always wanted to be a part of a statewide event to fight diabetes! There will be a party that will include entertainment, food, drink, and partners of the ADA. The new space will allow us to host the largest gathering and celebration of people living with diabetes in Missouri!
Q - Can you tell me a little more about the event venue?
A - Sure! We invite Walkers, Runners & Cyclists to join us at the upcoming Tour de Cure St. Louis on June 3, 2017, at Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater (1 Henry St, Alton, IL, 62002.) We are excited to offer our walkers and runners a NEW event experience with more post-event celebration options and opportunities to engage with a wider diabetes community.
Q - Can friends and family participate in the finish line festivities?
A - Friends and family members are welcome at the festival, though they will be required to pay for lunch. Your friends and family can cheer you across the finish line and then join you in enjoying the festivities. Friends and family are also welcome to sign up for volunteer assignments at the event.

A - We don't have a host hotel, but we do have multiple options with some discounted rates.

Q - I registered to ride and now I have a conflict. Can you cancel my registration? Do I still have to fundraise?
A - Yes, we can cancel your registration, and you are not required to fundraise if you will not be riding in the event. We appreciate your contacting us so we can release your space to another rider. Your registration is nonrefundable and nontransferable. Alternately, even though you will not be able to ride, we can keep your registration active on our website to allow you to continue fundraising for our important cause to stop diabetes. This way you will be participating as a virtual rider and still making a difference.

Q - When and where do I turn in cash and check donations?
A - You may turn in your cash/check donations at any time to the American Diabetes Association. Checks should be made payable to American Diabetes Association. Send to our local office.

Q – How many people form a team?
A – We prefer each team to include five or more individuals. There is no limit as to how large a team can be. You can have a team with as few as two people.
Q – Why be a part of a team if the fundraising minimums are
A – Teams have more fun! They compete with other teams and they can earn team tents to hang out in during the festival on the afternoon of the event and much more. Many teams do extra things like team training rides, team shirts or jerseys and team fundraising. Company teams are a great way to create camaraderie among employees while getting healthy and creating a presence in the community.
Q – Can my company team include more than employees?
A – Yes! Successful company teams enroll not only employees, but family, friends, associates, clients, vendors, etc. The team is for everyone connected to your company in some way. Check with your employer as to whether there are any restrictions. Also, check with your employer about whether matching gifts might be available for team participants.
Q – Does everyone on my team need to ride, run & walk together?
A – No. In spite of being on a team, riders should register for the distance/route that best suits their abilities and level of training/fitness. Large teams will want to do some coordination so that team members going the same distance know in advance and can arrange to go together.
