Dan Goese's 2020 Tour de Cure Fundraiser
Thank you friends and family for visiting my fundraising page! I have my work cut out for me here and on the road, so I really appreciate your support.
Has Diabetes affected someone you know? Diabetes kills more Americans every year than AIDS and breast cancer combined.¹ In the fall of 2019 my mom woke up one morning to find her legs were paralyzed.² Several days of uncertainty and confusion amongst the doctors passed before they realized her condition was caused by diabetes. More than 30 million adults & children in the USA are living with this disease. I want to help the American Diabetes Association raise awareness of the symptoms and causes of diabetes.
One of my fellow San Diego Bicycle Club (sdbc.org) riders, Mike Ready, lives with insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes. There's no known way to prevent type 1 diabetes, but with the help of the American Diabetes Association, researchers are exploring potential ways to prevent the disease and mitigate islet cell destruction in newly-diagnosed patients. Cyclists get flat tires and "mechanicals" that require stopping in random places. Mike—as a type 1 patient—is one guy we can't leave alone on the road because of the omnipresent risk of the disease making things get much worse than an equipment failure. I want to help the American Diabetes Association find a cure for diabetes to save lives and help those suffering with this disease.
Please help me. Your donation is tax-deductible. Donations help spread awareness, advocate for diabetic children, fund life-saving research, and provide access to community programs and resources to those living with diabetes.
See my blog (https://bikechapel.weebly.com/blog) for updates & Strava (https://www.strava.com/athletes/61596 "sign up" for a free account to see all the rides and motivate yourself to get moving more often) to check on this 61-year-old man's training for his extra-challenging 118-mile³ fundraising ride.
Thank you for your generous donation!! (ANY amount is generous, and the time you take to make that donation is appreciated, too.)
Be well, and enjoy your day.

- American Diabetes Association (ADA, at diabetes.org) "Fact Sheet," a collaborative report with the CDC (cdc.gov), the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (niddk.nih.gov), and other government and nonprofit agencies.
- Thankfully, medical care, diagnosis and rehabilitation has helped my mom regain the use of her legs. At 88 years old, she's quite a trooper!
- On April 4, 2020—if the fates are willing—I'm riding from home to the start of the 100-mile route, and then back home from the finish line.
