Hey! Triker Greg here. Welcome to my ADA Page
CONTINUING MY MISSION IN 2020
Ya know, As I get older, I more often think about that day when I lie on my death bed and contemplate the meaning of my life. (Heavy, huh?) But really, When I have left this world, I hope I will have made a difference. So that means that NOW is the time to make that difference! To help the world be a better place. And so, I have given myself some missions.
My missions are:
1) To fund research to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
That goal is about the kids! 40,000 young Americans are diagnosed with Type 1 each year!
(Through NO fault of their own!)
2) To help educate people with pre-diabetes - personally, and by funding ADA programs.
Almost 90,000,000 Americans have Pre-Diabetes - and 90% of them don't know it!
(If you're overweight, you may be one of them!)
Pre-Diabetes almost always leads to Type 2 Diabetes withing 5 years.
But with education, it CAN be reversed!
So for the seventh year, I am registered to participate in the TourdeCure and I am now raising money to help prevent diabetes.
And I'll bet you already know that each year, in addition to riding the one day TourdeCure ride, I do one or more longer, more challenging rides to encourage my friends and family to be generous donors. My first long ride was in 2015. i called it "Greg's Long Ride Home". That was 1400 miles from Ohio to Key West, FL. And last year was my longest ride, "Pedaling Route 66 to the Great Lakes to STOP DIABETES", over 1800 miles.
But, though I hate to admit it, I'm getting older and more tired. My 2019 ride was was long and painful. And although I had fantastic experiences and met amazing people, I didn't have as much fun as I would have liked. And, I was away from home, Eileen, the kids and grandkids, and Barley for 7 long weeks. So for 2020, I'm gonna take it a little easier and make it more fun!
2020: Gears and Beers Around Cape Cod to STOP DIABETES
So, for my 2020 ride to raise funds and awareness for the American Diabetes Association, I will pedal a solo, unsupported, 300-ish mile Brewery Tour by Bike around the Cape Cod area.
This tour will include the following destinations:
• Provincetown, RI • South Walpole, MA • Two days in Boston, MA • Cape Cod (Provincetown, MA - Orleans, MA • Hyannis, MA • Martha's Vineyard, MA (Chappaquiddick - Edgartown) • Block Island, RI (New Shoreham)
• And finally, back to Provincetown, RI
But WHY do these long rides at all?
Of course, the personal challenge intrigues me. But I do these rides because I want you to know how much my mission means to me - So that you may want to help me achieve my goals and help me to help the millions of American children and adults with Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes.
