What are the benefits to joining Team Diabetes and fundraising for the American Diabetes Association?

When you register to be a part of Team Diabetes, you will receive:

  • Access to your own personal page to customize with your story, details about your event and a photo/video
  • Email templates and shareable graphics to help ask for support
  • Downloadable resources such as guides and fact sheets
  • Access to Shopdiabetes.org where you can purchase materials to enhance your event and apparel to show your support of the American Diabetes Association

Which type of event campaign should I create?

  • Choose Your Move athletic events (marathons, half marathons), walks (community, school) and much more
  • Milestones a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday; can also be used for diaversary (date of a diabetes diagnosis)
  • Tributes in honor or memory of someone who is affected by diabetes
  • Create Your Own unique options for any type of fundraiser (yard sale, bake sale, board game tournament, etc.)
  • Camp designated fundraising site to support our Camps
  • Corporate/Workplace company-based fundraising events

Getting Started

What do I need to create my Team Diabetes page?

To join Team Diabetes, you will need to provide a valid e-mail address and physical address.

Is there a registration fee or fundraising minimum to participate?

No, there is neither a registration fee nor a fundraising minimum to be a part of Team Diabetes. Each event type has a specific suggested fundraising goal to help guide your fundraiser.

How do I get started and join Team Diabetes?

Visit the event page here and click “Get Started” under the event type you’d like to create. Follow the easy, online registration process to start your event and create your fundraising page!

Fundraising for Team Diabetes

Should I donate to my own fundraiser?

Yes, donating to your fundraising efforts is a great way to jumpstart your campaign and shows your friends and family that you are serious about making a difference for those living with diabetes. You can donate any amount and set an example for others who visit your page! By doing so, you also earn the Personal Donor badge on your page!

Are donations to my campaign tax-deductible?

Yes! You and every donor to your page will receive an email receipt for tax purposes.

Can I fundraise from Facebook?

Yes! You can connect your Team Diabetes fundraising page to your Facebook account for easy, all-in-one fundraising. Once you are logged in to your Fundraising Center, follow these instructions to setup your page.

How can I enter cash or check gifts to my online page?

First, log in to your Fundraising Center. Click the “Enter New Gift” button. Enter the information and be sure to click “Save.” Note that all offline gifts have to be entered into your Fundraising Center online to be included in your total. Once entered online, mail the cash or check donations you receive to the American Diabetes Association using this form.

I want my local American Diabetes Association office to receive the proceeds from my fundraiser. How can I do that?

All proceeds from Team Diabetes are automatically attributed to the nearest local office by the zip code with which you registered. There is nothing more that you need to do in order to credit your local office!

Where can I find a receipt to provide my donors who give me cash or check donations?

If you need to give a receipt for a small cash or check donation, please print, cut and fill out one of the receipts in this downloadable document (Adobe PDF file).

Is my information secure?

Information security is our priority. Our online system has been designed to protect your information. It uses industry-standard SSL encryption techniques to make sure your credit card information, passwords, and personal information travel securely over the Internet. We have also installed an encryption engine on our database server so your data is securely stored.

How is my credit card information handled?

Credit card information is not stored in our database. During the donation process, we send your credit card information to an online processing terminal using a secure connection. The information passed back is an approval or denial for the credit card donation.

How do I know if my company offers Matching Gifts?

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees. To find a company that offers Matching Gifts, you can search here.

What resources are available for my fundraiser?

Several downloadable resources and guides are available for Team Diabetes.
