About Community Walk @ School

Community Walk @ School are local walk events with an emphasis on diabetes awareness and fundraising for schools —students, teachers, staff and families are all encouraged to get involved! A school designated Volunteer Walk Coordinator plans the event at the school and is the main contact for the event.

"We are very excited to launch the new Community Walk initiative," said David McShea, the Association’s Managing National Director. "We are looking to Community Walk @ School as a great way to engage new volunteers and donors in the Stop Diabetes movement in schools all across the country."

How Does the Process Work?

A school will designate a Volunteer Walk Coordinator (VWC), who will register the school with the Association, and be the main contact person for the event. The VWC is usually a teacher or parent volunteer who helps plan the event, secures all the appropriate permissions, and communicates with the teachers, staff and students about the event.

Could YOU be a Volunteer Walk Coordinator?

Almost anyone can be a great VWC! The most successful VWCs are people with the drive and passion to get the word out about diabetes, a commitment to fundraising and some organizational skills to ensure a fun and successful event!
